Wedding Feature: Kayla & Brian 09.11.2021 | Barn at Lord Howe Valley

Kayla and Brian’s wedding at The Barn at Lord Howe Valley was nothing short of extraordinary. Almost a year later, we’re still touched by the memories made and all the love we witnessed. And we’re still thinking about the hawk.

Brian had lost his Uncle Chris to a long, hard-fought battle with cancer in July of 2020. On the day of his passing, a red-tailed hawk was spotted sitting on his roof. It remained there until Chris took his last breath, then it flew away. Later, at his memorial service, a red-tailed hawk circled above friends and family gathered to honor him.

Over a year later, at Kayla and Brian’s wedding, a red-tailed hawk appeared, flying above the bride and groom just as their ceremony came to an end. Brian’s Aunt Julie stood up and yelled, “Look, it’s a hawk!”

At that moment, all in attendance knew Uncle Chris was with them that day, bringing all who loved and missed him a sense of peace.

Weddings are beautiful in the way that they bring family members and friends together. Oftentimes, though, there are some whom we wish could be there, but cannot. And this is why stories like this one are so moving, and why we’ll always remember Kayla, Brian, Uncle Chris, and that red-tailed hawk.
